Configuring Internet Explorer 8

Print this page and follow the instructions below to configure your browser.

1. Under the View menu select Toolbars, and check to be sure there is a check mark beside Status Bar; if not select Status Bar.
   
   
2. Under the Tools menu select Compatibility View Settings.
    
   
   • Type blackboard.com in the text box below Add this website.
   • Click the Add button.
   • Type utsystem.edu in the text box below Add this website.
   • Click the Add button.
   • Click the Close button.
      
     
3. Under the Tools menu select Internet Options.
   
   
   • Click the General tab.
     1. In the Browsing history section, click the Delete... button.
     2. Click to check the boxes beside Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History.
     3. Click the Delete button.
     4. In the Browsing history section, click the Settings button.
     5. Click the radio button beside Every time I visit the webpage.
     6. Click the OK button.
        
        
   • Click the Security tab.
     1. Click the Internet icon.
     2. Click the Default level button.
     3. Use the slider to set the security level to Medium or Medium-High.
     4. Click the Custom level... button.
     5. In the Scripting section at the bottom, click the radio button beside Enable for Active scripting and Scripting of Java applets.
     6. Click the OK button.
     7. Click the Yes button in the warning box.
     8. Click the Trusted sites icon.
     9. Click the Default level button.
     10. Use the slider to set the security level to Low or Medium-Low.
     11. Click the Sites button.
     12. Click to uncheck the box beside Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
     13. Type blackboard.com in the text box below Add this website to the zone.
     14. Click the Add button.
     15. Type utsystem.edu in the text box below Add this website to the zone.
     16. Click the Add button.
     17. Click the Close button.
         
         
   • Click the Privacy tab.
     • Use the slider to set the privacy level to Medium.
     • Click the Sites button.
     • Type blackboard.com in the text box below Address of website.
     • Click the Allow button.
     • Type utsystem.edu in the text box below Address of website.
     • Click the Allow button.
     • Click the OK button.
     • Click the check the box beside Turn on Pop-up Blocker.
     • Click the Settings button.
     • Type blackboard.com in the text box below Address of website to allow.
     • Click the Add button.
     • Type utsystem.edu in the text box below Address of website to allow.
     • Click the Add button.
     • Click to check the boxes beside Play a sound when a pop-up is blocked and Show Information bar when a pop-up is blocked.
     • Under Blocking level select Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups.
     • Click the Close button.
       
       
   • Click the Advanced tab.
     
     • In the Browsing section, click to check the boxes beside, Disabled script debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable script debugging (Other).
     • In the Java (Sun) section, click to check the box beside, Use JRE 1.6.0_13 for <applet> (requires restart).
     • In the Multimedia section, click to check the boxes beside, Play animations in webpages* and Play sounds in webpages.
     • Click the Apply button.
     • Click the OK button.
        
4. Close the browser and Restart your computer.
