What is a Komodo account?
UTTC provides web publishing space by request for students in selected courses. This is a place to store your UTTC-course-required web projects for the duration of the UTTC course that requires use of the webspace. Students enrolled in the MEd program have access for the duration of their enrollment with UTTC.

Usage Policy
Use of University of Texas System Administration computers and networking facilities requires prior authorization. Unauthorized access is prohibited. Usage may be subject to security testing and monitoring. Abuse is subject to criminal prosecution. Your content may not exceed 50 MB in size, and neither server nor client side scripting are allowed.

Note:
Although your content is backed up as part of the UT System Disaster Recovery Plan, you should always keep an up-to-date, local copy of all content in your FTP directory, as UTTC cannot restore content deleted by users. Logging into your directory the first time constitutes your agreement with these policies as well as all applicable sections of the Information Resources Acceptable Use Policy. Violators of any of these policies may have content deleted without notice.

How do I use my Komodo account?
You will upload content from your local computer to your web publishing folder via file transfer protocol (FTP), where it will be publicly viewable via hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP). Macintosh users will need to obtain FTP software. PC users may use either Internet Explorer or FTP software. Some FTP software may be used free of charge for educational purposes (see links below).

PC
WS_FTP LE -- http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.asp
CoffeeCup Direct FTP -- http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10064-108-40171.html

Macintosh
Fetch -- http://www.fetchsoftworks.com

To obtain your account, send an email with subject line “Web Pub Request" to telecampus@utsystem.edu, and include your full name, course name and number. You will receive your login information via email within two business days.

To access your FTP folder, type ftp://komodo.utsystem.edu in the address field of Internet Explorer or the host name/address field of your FTP software. You will be prompted to enter your username and password, which are based on the following:

a) Username = the 1st letter of your 1st name + your last name, e.g. John Doe would be jdoe (duplication is avoided by appending a numeral to usernames as needed, e.g. Jerry Doe might be jdoe1)

b) Password = your eight digit date of birth (mmddyyyy), e.g. a birthdate of January 1, 1902 would be 01011902

Once logged in, you will see a list of folders. Open the med or websystems folder (depending on the program/course you are enrolled in), then open the folder matching your username. You can now drag or copy files and folders into your folder. You may create new folders, and edit or delete files and folders as you wish. Be sure to name your start page index.html or index.htm so that it will be displayed by default when the URL to your website is accessed.

The URL to your website will look something like this: http://komodo.utsystem.edu/yourcoursefoldername/yourusername. For example, if your username is hbogart and you are in the MEd program, your website URL would be: http://komodo.utsystem.edu/med/hbogart. If your username is sfields and you are in the Web Systems course, your website URL would be: http://komodo.utsystem.edu/websystems/sfields.

What if I forget my Komodo account password?
Have you changed and forgotten your komodo password? Your initial komodo password is set to your 8-digit date of birth. To reset your password to your 8-digit date of birth, send email to telecampus@utsystem.edu with the subject "komodo password reset" and include your first and last name and the course in which you are enrolled. You will receive a reply once your password has been reset.
