Faculty Workshop

Woman in front of her laptopNew Format
The Faculty Workshop that was previously held face-to-face in Austin is moving to an online format in Fall, 2009. The new online curriculum combines three self-paced online modules with a four-week facilitated online workshop.

We’ve carried out this redesign to provide contemporary, first-rate instructional design guidance, course management training, and direction on effective teaching practices for fully online courses. Additionally, if we’re sharing best practices for teaching online, it makes more sense and is more effective for us to use the tools that faculty members will use in their online classrooms. And finally, the online offerings help reduce travel expenses throughout the UT System.

Online Workshop
Faculty members teaching academic courses online for the first time through the TeleCampus should participate in the UTTC online faculty development  courses (offered twice a year) preferably the semester prior to their first course offering. Upon completion of the curriculum, each qualifying participant will receive the new UTTC Diamond Certification to teach online. Faculty members who receive the UTTC Diamond Certification can display the logo in their course and will receive priority access to advanced workshops.

Faculty members who have previously taught online or have previously attended the face-to-face workshop in Austin will need to participate in order to receive the UTTC Diamond Certification. Experienced faculty members also help mentor new faculty members in the online environment.

UTTC Diamond Certification Curriculum
The curriculum required of all faculty members wishing to achieve the UTTC Diamond Certification includes the following components:

  1. Copyright: Just the Basics (self-paced tutorial)
  2. Instructional Design for Online Courses (self-paced tutorial)
  3. Getting Started in Blackboard (self-paced tutorial)
  4. Teaching Online (four-week facilitated online workshop)
Please see the Workshop Specifics for Curriculum details and to enroll.
