Call for Proposals

The deadline to submit proposals for IOL 2008 has passed. Please link to the program for more information.

People listening to a speakerThe fourth annual UT System IOL Conference seeks proposals dealing with changes and innovations in online education. We are especially interested in unique approaches to the challenges involved with this delivery method, cutting-edge technologies, interesting research, examples of learning communities, and best practices for encouraging interactivity.

Concurrent sessions will be held on May 22 and 23. The deadline for proposals was January 31, 2008. To submit your proposal for consideration, please fill out the information below.

Conference Tracks:

  • Teaching and Learning (pedagogy)
  • Student and Faculty Services (library, financial aid, help desk, registration, etc.)
  • Course Development (best practices and innovations)
  • Administration and Policies (management, staffing, organizational issues)
  • Technology (technology that supports, enhances, or facilitates online teaching and learning; some suggested topics might include CMS/LMS administration, data integration, application development, security, records management, or hardware/software administration)

Concurrent Sessions:
Concurrent sessions provide an opportunity to give a 45-75 minute presentation in your field of expertise. Conference attendees are interested in learning how others within the UT System are successfully developing and managing hybrid and fully online courses and programs.

Only proposals submitted by UT System faculty, staff, and students will be considered. All presenters are required to register and pay for the conference. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the presentation.

The review committees reserve the right to combine two to three proposals into one long (75 minute session) in order to accommodate the greatest number of beneficial presentations to conference attendees. If you have questions about this, please contact Darcy Hardy

Review criteria:
Attendees expect well-delivered presentations containing quality information that is of practical value to their day-to-day work. Each proposal is reviewed by a committee of at least four members for each topic area. Reviewers look for clear descriptions. Considerable weight is given to proposals that specify session learning objectives and clearly describe why the content will be valuable to attendees.

Status of Proposals and Notification:
You will be contacted no later than March 17, 2008 about the status of your proposal. If your proposal is accepted, the lead presenter will receive an email containing information relevant to your presentation. Lead presenters are responsible for forwarding all information to their co-presenters.

Equipment:
The conference will provide a standard set up (LCD data/video projector, screen, podium, and presenter’s table). Internet access will not be available in all presentation rooms. Be sure to note if you will need internet connectivity and why it is necessary to your presentation.

Instructions for Preparing your Proposal:
Please prepare your proposal in a Microsoft Word document and email it as an attachment to iolcall@utsystem.edu. In the subject line of the email, place the appropriate track e.g., Teaching and Learning. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Miller. An email confirming the receipt of your proposal will be sent to you.
