Semester Start Information & Tips

Resources

  • UTTC Quick Reference  - A handy list of contact information.
  • UTTC Knowledge Center - An informative and interactive resource that includes answers to questions frequently asked by current students.
  • Learning Resources Organization - UTTC provides academic students with free access to rich learning resources including an online writing lab and online tutorial service.
  • UTTC Digital Library - From the very first day of class, you can access this powerful collection of online scholarly resources using your UTTC username and password. Plus, find contact information for librarians ready to help you with your search.
  • The Distance Learner's Guide is a valuable resource developed by WCET to help potential students become better consumers. Six supplemental chapters are available online.

Computer Setup
Ensuring you have the proper hardware and software is vital to your on line learning experience. UTTC courses make extensive use of plug-ins, helper applications, and cookies. It is essential that you have these elements installed for optimal viewing of the content and functions of your online course.

Before you begin your course, check that these elements and other settings for your web browser are configured correctly using the Browser Checker tool.  Link to the Technical Support pages for information on computer requirements, browser configuration, necessary downloads, and a list of frequently asked questions.

Need technical assistance?  Academic students have free round-the-clock live technical support available!

Semester Start Checklist
A helpful list of steps to take before beginning your course.

Course Login
To log in to UTTC’s Blackboard portal on the first day of class, click on Course Login
at the top of any UTTC web page. If you do not remember your username and password, follow the steps listed on the TIS Access page.

TIS (TeleCampus Information System)
Login to the TIS to submit a registration request, track the status as they go through the approval process, change your usernames or passwords and provide your contact information.

Dropping A Course
If, at any time after registration request approval or during a semester, you wish to drop your UT TeleCampus course, you must contact the host campus registration liaison. It is not possible to drop courses in the TIS. You should refer to the academic calendar at the host campus for important information regarding the dates and deadlines for drops and withdrawals, and how they might affect your academic record or refund.

Paying Your Fee Bill
Confirm your registration in the TIS and/or with the campus. Payment for a UTTC course is always made to the campus offering the course. Contact the registrar of the host university regarding the amount of your fee bill and payment deadline. It is your responsibility to follow-up with the host campus for information on payment procedures.

Purchasing Course Textbooks
Students can order textbooks and course materials online or by telephone. Students link to the host campus bookstore website through the UTTC Bookstore
and look up materials by course code and section. In a few cases, proctored tests will be required at the student’s expense, so please be sure to review your course description for any additional costs.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is handled by your home campus, the campus to which you are admitted. You can take courses from other UT System universities and have the credits count toward the enrollment requirement. As an online student, if you are receiving financial aid, it is important that you communicate with your home campus’ financial aid office several weeks in advance of each semester regarding enrollment at host institutions. There is a distance education financial aid contact for each campus.

Veteran's Affairs (GI Bill)/Hazlewood Benefits
Students eligible to use Veterans Affairs and Hazlewood benefits may also use these benefits for TeleCampus courses. Unlike financial aid, VA and Hazlewood benefits are administered by the host campus. If you are enrolled at more than one campus, each campus will certify the hours taken with the VA or the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. You must contact the certifying official at the campus each semester to ensure that your hours are certified with the appropriate entity so that your VA benefits are released to you or your tuition exemption is processed. Each campus may also have different procedures for verifying your coursework. Please contact the
certifying official at the campus for more information on applying for and using your VA benefits.

Library Access at Host Campuses
In addition to the UTTC Library resources, you are entitled to use your host campus library resources.  Visit Contact a Librarian to contact your host campus library/librarian.  Some campuses require you to contact them to request an account.

Campus Liaisons
Liaisons have been established at each UT campus to assist students with admissions, registration, billing/payment, financial aid and veterans' affairs issues.  For a list of contacts, please visit the Campus Liaisons page found online.

Help When You Need It
UTTC's 24x7 Help Desk, SunGard, can help with any technical questions or problems at 1-866-321-2988.

UTTC Student Services

Your Contact Information
Be sure to update your address, phone or email in your TIS student profile information every semester so your instructor and the UTTC can reach you. The TIS is the TeleCampus Information System.

Knowledge Center
The Knowledge Center answers frequently-asked-questions, catalog information, enrollment, library services, technical support, Blackboard, and more.

Grades
At the end of the semester, the grade assigned to you will appear in the Enrollment area of the TIS or through your host campus student information system.  Contact the registrar liaison at the host campus for information on how to log into that system.

Transcripts
Within one month of your grade being posted in the host campus student information system, your transcript will be sent to your UT home campus.  Your home campus will then add the course to your student record so that your home campus record is accurate and complete.

We always welcome input from our students.  Please contact us (telecampus@utsystem.edu) with your comments, suggestions or questions.
