The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) School of Nursing is pleased to offer an accelerated, affordable educational opportunity to registered nurses to continue their professional development. The online RN to BSN degree plan includes the five required nursing courses for registered nurse students to complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The five "RN-only" courses are offered every 6 weeks with a 1 week break in between. RN-only courses can be completed in 27 weeks.
The RN/BSN option was developed in concert with regional Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) programs and is approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Enrollment in the courses is restricted to students who have been accepted into this program.
The RN/BSN program builds upon previous nursing knowledge and experience. It eliminates duplication of content and clinical practice experience achieved by the experienced registered nurse. Specific “RN-only” courses have been designed to enhance the educational experience gained in an associate nursing degree, diploma nursing degree or foreign nursing degree. These courses, designed for the registered nurse, will assist in the transition into the professional role of nursing.
The University of Texas at El Paso has an academic requirement that a minimum of 30 credits of a baccalaureate degree must be completed at the home university and/or UT TeleCampus. The RN-only courses comprise 20 of these credits. The other 10 credits are either university core courses or electives that must be completed at UTEP or as courses offered via the UT TeleCampus. The RN Academic Advisor will assist RN students in meeting this requirement.
It is feasible that a registered nurse could complete the RN/BSN program in as little as six months, and at a substantial cost savings when compared to more traditional programs. Based upon review of student transcripts, students may be awarded transfer or advanced standing credit toward this degree. Approval by the Advisor is recommended prior to enrolling in courses to be applied to the RN/BSN degree plan.
