The online Master of Public Administration offered through the University of Texas at Arlington is a non-thesis program designed to provide students with the skills needed for effective public leadership, including planning and decision making; managing people, resources and programs; and representing the public interest in the highest ethical traditions. It also provides students with an in-depth understanding of the urban community in its social, economic and political context.
The MPA serves the educational needs of both those currently employed in public-service positions looking to upgrade their skills and advance their careers and those who are preparing for management careers in government at the city, state and federal levels.
New and Old Degree Requirements
A new degree plan is required for students who are admitted to the online MPA Program for the first time in the fall semester of 2007 or later. The new degree plan is based on a New MPA Curriculum designed to strengthen the school’s nationally accredited MPA program, making it an even more rewarding academic experience for students seeking the MPA degree. The new online curriculum offers a choice among three emphasis areas: Comparative and International Development; Public Budgeting and Financial Management; and Decision Management and Research.
Students admitted to the MPA Program in any semester before the fall semester of 2007 will continue to follow a degree plan based on the Old MPA Curriculum in effect at the time of their admission to the program, OR they may change to the new degree plan after consultation with and approval of the MPA Advisor.
