UTMB Concurrent Enrollment Program

MBA OnlineUTMB/UTTC Concurrent Enrollment Ph.D. and MBA Online Program

The University of Texas Medical Branch and the UT TeleCampus have developed an innovative degree program to meet the growing need for Biomedical Ph.D.'s in business and industry. This concurrent enrollment program integrates existing, approved Ph.D. programs at UTMB with the MBA Online program offered by the UT TeleCampus to provide an important new curriculum for students with a desire to enter a variety of business career tracks. This program, designed for biomedical students, prepares graduates not only for traditional biotechnology and pharmaceutical careers, but also for administrative positions in finance, marketing and research, and for entrepreneurial roles at high-tech start-up companies.

To be eligible for the concurrent enrollment program, you must be a student in good standing in a UTMB graduate program and have advanced to candidacy. Applicants must complete a formal application and obtain the signatures of their Mentor and Program Director. The application is to be submitted along with a current CV or resume, a copy of all undergraduate and UTMB graduate transcripts, and letters of recommendation from your Mentor and Program Director in sealed envelopes. The completed application and accompanying supporting documents should be submitted to the UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Office, Levin Hall 4.429, Mail Route 1050. Applicants will be invited for a short interview. If you are approved, you will receive a letter from the Dean of the UTMB GSBS allowing you to apply to the MBAO through the concurrent enrollment program.

  • UTMB Concurrent Enrollment Application Deadline - Contact the Advisor below for deadline information.
  • MBA Online Application Deadline - Deadlines for admission vary from one university to another. Consult the participating universities for specific details.

After receipt of the letter from the Dean and in order to participate in the MBA Online program, you must choose a home campus by applying to and being accepted by one of the seven participating universities. Criteria, procedures and deadlines for admission vary slightly from one university to another, but are predominantly the same as the traditional residence programs. Consult the participating universities for specific details. Generally, overall GPA's from baccalaureate work must be 3.0 or better. Students applying by permission of the UTMB GSBS are not required to submit GMAT or TOEFL scores, however, all MBA Online students must have successfully completed a college-level course in statistics.

Required credit hours total 48 for the MBAO. Students will take courses from all of the participating campuses and their MBA Online degree will be awarded by their home campus. Based on course load, students may complete the program in as little as two years or as many as six. Students are not required to complete the MBA at the time of completing the Ph.D., though a change from student status could influence the tuition paid depending on their residency status. Tuition and fee links can be found on the main MBA page. For information about the program, please see the UTMB GSBS website at http://gsbs.utmb.edu/mba/mbaonline.html
