Course Title: Exercise Physiology
Campus Course Code: KINE 5313
UTTC Course Code: KINO 6310
Campus: UT Tyler
Program: Kinesiology
Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive survey of exercise physiology, examining muscular, metabolic, and cardiorespiratory adaptations to acute and chronic exercise. Emphasis is on the major concepts in terms of normal responses to exercise. The course is intended to be a first course in exercise physiology, but as a graduate course, it involves more study of the research literature than is typically done in an undergraduate course.
Objectives
Objectives of the Kinesiology Online Master’s Degree Program are that graduates will be able to:
- critically read and discuss published research relevant to kinesiology;
- discuss in writing issues related to kinesiology, identifying, analyzing and defending different viewpoints;
- apply theoretical concepts from the kinesiology research literature to professional practice; and
- use computer technology to manage data, access information, and communicate effectively.
This course addresses these objectives through the following:
- Study of basic facts, concepts and theories of exercise physiology, with emphasis on the areas of exercise metabolism, skeletal muscle function and cardiopulmonary function.
- Critically reading and discussing research related to exercise physiology.
- Discussing in writing questions and viewpoints related to exercise physiology, analyzing and supporting viewpoints based on research evidence.
- Applying theoretical concepts in exercise physiology.
- Using computer technology to manage data, access information related to exercise physiology, and communicate effectively about exercise physiology.
More specific objectives are listed with each unit or lesson of the course.
