Course Title: Physical Science and Lab
Campus Course Code: IDS 2403/3201
Campus: UT San Antonio
Program: GenEd

Course Description

This conceptually-based course provides nonscience majors with an interdisciplinary survey of topics in physics and chemistry. Major themes include energy, forces, and atomic and subatomic interactions. Specific topics may include, but are not limited to: density, motion, work, power, waves, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, relativity, atomic and subatomic interactions, as well as acids and bases. This is a four credit hour course that includes the necessary lab. For non-science majors.

Objectives

Course Goals: The goals of the lecture and laboratory course sequence are to allow students to: (1) learn basic concepts and processes in physics and chemistry; (2) understand basic scientific principles; (3) apply knowledge in practical settings; (4) participate in democratic processes that require informed decision-making.
Course Objectives: These goals will be achieved by implementing the following objectives. Students will: (1) define specific principles in physics and chemistry; (2) use principles in a home laboratory setting to solve problems; (3) investigate scientific content in a technology enriched setting; (4) develop and use critical thinking skills to evaluate issues related to science.
