Course Title: Introduction to Sociology
Campus Course Code: SOCI 1301
Campus: UT Permian Basin
Program: GenEd

Course Description

Why Sociology? Very often we observe behavior and other social phenomena that seem "strange" and incomprehensible to us. Our behavior is not less "strange" to people from other cultural environments. To get a better understanding of the world around us, in this course we will try to look at the world in a fresh new way, hopefully more objective. This way will allow us to step outside ourselves and make connections between our lives and environment with those of other individuals in the same or different cultures. We will address a variety of sociological topics including theories and methods of research, structural inequalities --social class racism, sexism, heterosexism, ageism, etc.-- socialization and social control, social stratification, education and religion, the family, economic and political policies, and global development.   TCCN: SOCI 1301
