Course Description

MATH 1332, Contemporary Math, is a freshman-level course for students majoring in non-science, non-mathematics disciplines. Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to identify and to apply appropriate algorithms to produce solutions for various problem situations, including Euler circuit problems, Hamiltonian circuit problems, scheduling problems, two variable linear programming problems, weighted and unweighted group decision making problems, fair division problems, and apportionment problems. The student should also be able to discuss advantages and disadvantages of available algorithms in a particular problem situation, and to describe the algorithms so that someone unfamiliar with them could apply them.

Prerequisites: The prerequisites are two years of high school algebra, one year of high school geometry, and a satisfactory score on the placement examination.
