Course Title: Therapy in Early Intervention Settings

Course Description

This course will examine the role of the therapist working in early intervention (EI) settings. The course will cover federal and Texas legislation and policies concerning EI. The participant will be taken through the process from referral of a child to transition of the child out of EI. Typical and atypical development in the birth to three population will be discussed as well as treatment strategies. Techniques for development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) will be explored including routines-based interview and working in natural environments. The course will utilize the ECI 101 manual including The Service Coordination module, web based sites, discussion boards and clinical observation when possible. At the conclusion of the course the student will receive a certificate for ECI 101 and Service Coordination to provide to future employers in Texas ECI programs.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and skill in therapeutic intervention in early intervention (EI) programs.

Prerequisites: Students must be a licensed professional P.T., O.T., or Speech Pathologist. Other licensed health care providers may be accepted with the permission of the instructor.
