Course Description
TED 5302 is a graduate course that addresses theory and practice on how to manage instruction and relationships in a student-centered classroom. It promotes: 1) student-centered classrooms, 2) principled classroom leadership, 3) relationship building skills, and 4) learning communities. The course is designed to help educators examine their classroom management approaches in the context of up-to-date information concerning teaching, learning, and leadership. The course will provide an opportunity for participants to incrementally develop a classroom management theory and practice based on solid theoretical concepts and research.
Course Objectives
The class is designed to help educators learn how to:
- Use Empathic Listening, I Messages and Win-Win conflict resolution.
- Utilize Prevention, Redirection and Correction classroom interventions.
- Apply principles of Proactivity, Synergy and cooperation.
- Rewrite handed-down life scripts from a Principle-Center perspective
- Prioritize when planning and managing personal and professional activities
- Act on your physical, spiritual, mental and socio/emotional status
- Figure out how your beliefs about student learning impact your classroom
- Diminish the use of punishments and rewards
- Increase the autonomy and choices students have in your classroom
- Establish a classroom community
