Course Description

This course explores methods and materials for developing maturity in literacy and study skills in content area subjects from 4-12. It is designed to develop practitioners’ expertise in coordinating instructional strategies and materials to meet students’ needs including issues of cultural and linguistic diversity


Course Objectives

In RED 5340, you will learn about the importance of literacy in the content areas that creates a literate environment which fosters literacy enhancement. We will examine the importance of writing to learn in content areas subjects and plan various content writing strategies appropriate for specific content. Moreover, you will be able to identify note-taking and study/organizational strategies and develop instructional plans to teach students to apply these skills and strategies to enhance their lifelong learning.
