Course Description

The focus of the course is on primary heath care with emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach with individuals, families, and community problems. Planning for management of varied health problems within the community.

This course was designed for registered nurses, and builds upon previous knowledge and professional experience with working in a multidisciplinary health care setting. Application of multidisciplinary concepts to the community health nursing setting will be emphasized.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course the student is expected to:

  • Analyze economic, political, ethical, and socio-cultural factors associated with heath care problems of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Critique research studies to transform nursing, health, and multidisciplinary models and theories into effective clinical judgments as a primary care provider.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary conferences to provide comprehensive health care and continuity of care with persons and families in a community.
  • Utilize the planning process to analyze community health problems and to identify system interventions that will alleviate the problems.
    Collaborate with health-related disciplines to implement and evaluate an organized community activity or program aimed at health promotion or disease prevention.
  • Evaluate efficacy of health promotion and disease prevention activities.
