Course Description

The focus of this course is the study of professional nursing with emphasis on the challenging role of the nurse in contemporary society and in health care delivery. The impact of healthcare, legislation, accountability and ethical decision making are studied.

This course was designed for registered nurses and builds upon previous knowledge and professional experience. Some topics in the course may be familiar and approached in a “new light.” Professional nursing is an ever-growing discipline. New perspectives to “old” issues are enlightening.


Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Analyze the role of the professional nurse as a client advocate in a contemporary and changing society.
  2. Describe the present health care system and forces of change.
  3. Discuss the factors influencing the delivery of health care including cultural factors, demographics and life span changes.
