Course Title: Nursing Research and Statistics
Campus Course Code: NURS 3314
Campus: UT El Paso
Program: RN to BSN
Course Description

This course focuses on basic concepts and processes of research and statistics. It was designed for registered nurses and builds upon previous academic preparation in nursing and one’s experience as a practicing registered nurse. The information that one gained during one’s primary nursing educational program from textbooks is typically out-dated within 5 years of the textbook’s publication date. Nurses have a professional obligation to provide up-to-date evidence (research) based practice to the clients, families and communities we serve.

To assist you as a practicing nurse seeking information on the latest evidence for effective nursing care, the following learning activities are included in this course:

  • using electronic databases to access existing published literature
  • systematically review articles for adequacy of the research process
  • understand and evaluate the statistical methods used in the study
  • determine the benefit of this study for implementation into one’s clinical practice

Be assured that this is not a statistics course. There will be no mathematical calculations.
