Course Description

Emergent reading and writing behaviors in preschoolers; growth of reading and writing, kindergarten to grade three; attention to linguistically different and second-language learners, review of relevant research.

We will do active research in ten focus areas of literacy based on the language and literacy Texas Teacher Certification Competencies. The ten literacy overview areas of Early Childhood Education through grade four include:

  • History of Literacy

  • Reading and Writing
  • Children's Literature
  • Comprehension
