Course Title: Research Methods in Evidence-Based Health Care
Campus Course Code: HPRS 4309
Campus: UT Brownsville
Program: BAT - Health Services Technology
Course Description
This course is designed as an introduction to research for evidenced based health care. Each student will be able to apply the principles and procedures toward a chosen problem that demonstrates use of the scientific research methods. Research articles will be reviewed; quantitative and qualitative methods shall be discussed as well as types of data analysis and collection; basic statistical measures will be practiced; and clinical data shall be utilized to assess patient outcomes related to research studies. Information obtained from this course shall help the student interpret scientific medical literature and research presentations with greater accuracy. It is our hope that with these skills, our students can be consumers of well-developed evidence based health care methods to direct their future practice. For students who wish to pursue a higher level degree, this course can be an effective precursor to developing their own research plans and participating in medical research grants.
