Course Description

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the research methodologies and statistical techniques useful in analysis of urban trends and problems, and other methodological concerns such as research design, data collection, and data analysis and interpretation. In meeting this objective, the course will explore some of the elementary statistical techniques for univariate and bivariate data analysis, and will cover some of the important methodological issues in the design and implementation of social science research and policy analysis. Within the time frame of the course, the emphasis will be on maximum exposure to a variety of techniques and issues. Students should gain a working knowledge of each technique, should be able to appropriately use each technique in their own research, and should be able to intelligently evaluate and critique the use of the techniques by others.
